Terms of Service
Last updated: 25 August 2026
These terms govern your use of Redact PDF at redact.bnj.app, operated by Hugo Software ("we", "us"). By using the service you agree to them.
What the service does
Redact PDF runs in your browser and does two things:
- Redaction. Pages you mark are rebuilt from an image of the page with your marked areas painted over, so the text under them is no longer present in the output file. Pages you do not mark are copied unchanged.
- Fillable fields. It adds standard AcroForm fields to an existing PDF — text, paragraph, date, checkbox and dropdown — and, separately, a visible signature box, which is a drawn box to sign in and not a digital signature field.
After a redaction we reopen the produced file in your browser and search it for the text you covered, then show you the result.
What the service does not do — please read
- It is not legal advice and not a compliance certificate. The verification tells you whether the specific strings you covered can still be found in that specific file. It cannot tell you whether you covered everything you were required to cover.
- Scanned documents are images. If your PDF is a scan with no text layer, there is no text to remove; the marked area is painted over the image, and nothing more can be verified about it.
- The signature box carries no cryptographic signature. PDF signature fields that hold a real digital signature are not created by this tool.
- We cannot recover your work. Nothing is stored on our side; if you close the tab before downloading, the result is gone.
- Encrypted (password-protected) PDFs are refused with a message rather than processed.
You are responsible for the documents you process and for checking the output before you share it.
Free use and subscription
The free tier covers single-page documents in full, with no watermark, including the on-screen verification, and up to three form fields. A subscription removes the page limit and adds batch processing of several files with the same search terms, saved field layouts and a downloadable verification report.
- Plans: weekly, monthly and yearly, with a 24-hour free trial at the start.
- Prices are shown before you pay, in the checkout, in your currency where Stripe supports it.
- Billing is handled by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from the customer portal linked in the app, or through the receipt email Stripe sends you. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues to the end of the period you already paid for. If you cancel during the trial you are not charged.
Refunds
- No charge is made during the free trial.
- If a renewal has been charged and you have not used the paid features since that renewal, write to us within 14 days and we will refund it.
- Statutory rights (including EU/UK consumer rights) are unaffected by the above.
Licence codes
A subscription is identified by a licence code (BNJ-XXXXXXXX), not by an account. Keep it: it is how you restore access on another device. Anyone with the code can use the subscription, so treat it like a password. We can re-issue a code only through the Stripe customer record it belongs to.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, to alter documents you have no right to alter, or to attack the service (automated abuse, attempts to overload it, attempts to bypass the payment gate). We may block access that does this.
Availability and liability
The service is provided "as is". We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for the content of your documents, or for decisions made on the basis of the verification result. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Price and term changes
We may change prices or these terms. Changes are published here with a new date and apply from your next renewal; if you do not accept them, cancel before that renewal.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
